This ride started from Frome in Somerset with Clive, Mick, DavidB, Siobhan, GrahamB, Vanessa, Martin, BrianC, Carol, Lin, Mark, David, SueC and Alistair. The ride took us up a steep hill through part of the old town to Cottle's Oak, then down and up another steep hill to join the S&DR rail trail that took us to Radstock. We continued on the NCN24 as it followed the valley of the Wellow Brook to Wellow where SueC's pedal had worked loose - it had partially stripped the thread on the crank. We bodged it up as best as we could but about a mile further on as we had just entered the first long tunnel it had worked loose again and could not be repaired. So Mick with his ebike pushed SueC up the gentle slope through the tunnel to the top of the climb so that Sue could mostly freewheel down to the end of the cycle path into Bath.
Whilst the rest of the group continued on the tour of Bath, through Royal Victoria Park, around the Royal Crescent, the Circus and through the town centre to Pulteney Bridge, BrianC, SueC and Alistair pushed their bikes for the mile or so along the footpath beside the main road to Brian's son's flat where we left Sue's bike. Sue then walked to the station for a train to visit a friend in Trowbridge. David had selected an upmarket venue for lunch, The Architect, formerly the grand reception rooms of the Albion Hotel on the prime spot at the corner of Grand Parade and Orange Grove overlooking the river at Pulteney Bridge - the food was excellent. After crossing Pulteney Bridge we picked up the towpath of the K&A canal and followed this to Bradford on Avon crossing over the river below on the Dundas and Avoncliff aqueducts. Unfortunately the cafes were all closed, it was about 5pm, so we continued on and at Rode came across a pedal tricycle ice cream van where we bought ice creams instead. The last part of the route went through Beckington and Spring Gardens to Frome - good but long day out - 42 miles and 689m ascent.
