On Wednesday afternoon David, SueC, SueP, Carol, Rod, Mark, Ray, Brian, Mick and I set of in three cars for Portsmouth and boarded the overnight ferry to St Malo. Once settled in our cabins we met up in the cafe to eat and celebrate Mark's birthday with a few glasses of wine and birthday cake. Next morning after breakfast on board we disembarked and drove to Evran where the bikes that were carried inside were re-assembled.

The weather was mild with light cloud as we set off on the quiet back roads to pick up the V3 Voie Verte near Le Hambout. This is a former railway line with a good fine gravel surface that gently rises [circa 2%] to Plouasne where stopped for a coffee then headed east on the quiet back roads following the VD4. This climbed over the next 4 miles to the small town of Becherel, the French equivalent of Hay on Wye with its many bookshops. After that the route was generally downhill although fairly undulating until Hede where we stopped for lunch in the bar we used on the last trip this way. From there it was a short run to the canal where we followed the towpath all the way back to the cars at Evran - 40 miles and 390m ascent.

After packing up we drove back to the ferry stopping off at the Hypermarket for some shopping. On board we celebrated Mick's birthday with a few glasses of wine then retired to the bar for the evening's entertainment. Some were obviously not tired at all and took to the dance floor. After breakfast in the morning we disembarked and headed home, getting back about 9:30 - a great trip, some photos below.
